Is runemaking with potions worth it?

I often find myself runemaking when im not doing much in Tibia, usually in my house for that extra mana regeneration. I recently remembered someone long ago telling me that you could break even if you wasted all your 200 soul points by drinking normal mana potions while making runes (+-0gp), sometimes even making profit from it! This was years ago though and I never really tried it myself, and as many of us know they changed the prices of potions and runes since then.

So my questions are:

•  Is it still worth it today to spam normal mana potions while making runes from the 200 soul points. (will you waste or profit from it, and by how much)
•  What are the best runes to make while doing this? (as a druid or sorcerer)

3 Sudden Death Runes = 985 Mana Potions 

120 Sudden Death Runes = 39.000 Mana Points

394 Mana Potions = 39.400 Mana Point at Average

1 Mana Potion = 56 Gold Pieces (-5 return the empty flask) = 51 Gold Pieces

394 Mana Potions = 22.064 Gold Pieces (-1.970 returning the 394 empty flask) = 20.094 Gold Pieces

1 Blank Rune = 10 Gold Pieces

40 Blank Runes = 400 Gold Pieces

120 Sudden Death Rune = 16.200 Gold Pieces

So I did the same math that Trululu Gumdrops did and tried it ingame but as a Druid.

Avalanches seem to indeed be the best rune to make in this way for Druids!

 Mana Cost: 530, Soul Points: 3, Creates: 4 Runes

• With 200 Soul Points you can cast the Avalanche Rune Spell 66 times
• 66 x 530mana = 34980 mana (This is how much mana you need to waste all 200 soul points)
• 66 blank runes = 660gp
• 34980 mana / 100 = 349,8 (this is how many normal mana potions you need to drink on average to get 34980 mana)
• 349,8 or 350 mana potions~ will cost you 19.600GP - 56gp ea (but you can sell the vials back so lets say you pay 17.850GP) - 51gp ea
• If you cast the avalanche spell 66x this will give you 264 Avalanche Runes 
• 1 Avalanche rune is valued at 57gp so 264 x 57 = 15.048GP
• 18510gp (cost of potions & blank runes) - 15.048gp (value of avalanches) = 3462gp

So in conclusion, is it worth it?

It depends on how you look at it, you are not profiting, however you are spending almost 35000 mana at the cost of only about 3500gold. which is not that bad towards your magic level if you do it frequently. So I would say its worth it :)

Hey Krisph, I'm wondering about one thing not included in this math: how does this cost compares to using the same money/mana casting instant spells and using a rod while hunting? I mean, if you compare the damage done by the instant spells per mana cost to the use of runes.

Of course YES! It worth to do for sale or for yourself. I use a lot of GFBs   and SDs so I often do it when afk.

I love this when double exp and I skills mlvl in house. But, for me it's better use these items than potions. I honestly can't tell you whether mana or my method are better. Both are good.

* Life Ring/ Ring of Healing 

* Soft Boots 

* Blank Runes 

* Brown Mushrooms 

I waste all mana for runes, and then start the skill and wait for full mana and repeat. It is some extra % to mlvl.

I'm totally with you with the sitting in the house wearing soft boots & life/healing ring while runemaking, I do that sooo much! This question was however pointed towards if its worth it by using Potions ^^
