My in-game backpack contents in many ways is similar to mine in-RL: I carry a lot of stuff to be ready for any situation and spontaneous adventures with little to no preparation. In Tibia I do a lot of solo exploring (Measuring Tibia Quest) and various questing, and so I'm facing a lot of different creatures.

As some of the creatures are strong/immune to physical attack, I'd like to invest in a single secondary weapon with powerful elemental imbuement (apart from other imbuements) to be used occasionally. The question is: which element should I choose for Knight and Paladin (single target) to be the most versatile?

I guess Earth is not the right choice, as even simple ghosts are immune to it. Fire seems risky, as there may be many combinations of mobs, of which one is immune to fire and the other to physical (like the old DS+ghost). One approach of answering my question would be to make a huge table of elemental resistances... But I hope your knowledge and experience, dear wise sages, could answer my question straight away. :)

For most situations you won't need to have many pieces of equipment to deal with immunities especially since most of the newer content lacks those. I'll answer as an RP - not having any elemental weapons available.

List of monsters immune to physical damage
https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Physical_Damage/Immune
As you can see there are very few monsters that are fully immune to Physical damage outside of quests/events.
The most notable ones are:
 - Ghost

- Pirate Ghost

- Phantasm

- Burster Spectre

And all of them take damage from the basic elements - with fire being the best one to use.
Usually when dealing with them running through/away is the most efficient way to survive. In other cases use bomb/wall runes and if you have to kill - for EK use an elemental weapon - for RP mas san and ava/gfb.

EK
In my opinion there is little benefit to focusing on elemental imbuements on lower lvl backup weapons that will get outclassed as soon as you lvl-up. For EK you'll start getting elemental options on weapons around lvl 200-230 depending on your weapon on choice. Before that you can chuck in a Fire Sword, Fire Axe or several Glooth Clubs(sadly club only has this one option that has measly 2 charges and deals earth damage that doesn't affect Ghosts and Pirate Ghosts) into your backpack and be safe to have a good-enough option to deal elemental damage.

Picking one element that would deal significant damage to all monsters is impossible since there are several overlapping immunites even for monsters that can be encountered below lvl 200.
List of regular monsters that take less than 60% of Physical damage with their viable elements:
- Souleater  -   Fire  Energy Earth
- Spectre  - Fire Energy
- Ripper Spectre- Fire Energy Ice
- Gazer Spectre  - Ice Energy Earth
- Greater Fire Elemental/Hellfire Fighter  - Ice Earth
- Massive Energy Elemental  - Earth
- Menacing Carnivor  - everything but Physical
- Massive Water Elemental  - Energy
https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Physical_Damage/Strong

To cover all the options one would have to have all the basic elements - Ice, Fire, Energy and Earth
To lower the number of weapons to minimum(always being able to deal damage but not always optimal) you could have 3 but that would still result in some monsters being 50% resistant to one of your elements - Ice, Fire, Death
If you accept a compromise - not being able to deal significant damage to a handful of monsters and rarely an immunity - Ice or Energy would be the best element to have on a secondary weapon. With Ice having slightly more immunities and Energy having many more resistances.

RP
Divine Caldera(Exevo Mas San) and Elemental AoE runes are a good enough option to deal with Ghosts and Pirate Ghosts and will get rid of Phantasm clones. Sadly spectres render Paladin useless but running through them with the use of Wall/Bomb runes should be enough.

What's more important in my opinion is to have a versatile toolbox of secondary tools and items to use when exploring the world of Tibia and doing quests

Tools obtained  in Secret Service Questhttps://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Secret_Service_Quest

All of them have several tools included within, ranging from rope and shovel to niche ones like a spoon

Obsidian Knife https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Obsidian_Knife_Quest

Used in several quests, for skinning, in sculpting and more. https://www.tibiaqa.com/25676/what-are-all-of-the-uses-of-the-obsidian-knife

Replica weapons - especially wands/rods - https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Replicas

Invaluable when you meet a rare boss and don't want to instakill it - they deal 0-10 allowing people to share low health bosses like Willi Wasp and others

Blessed wooden stake https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/The_Blessed_Stake_Quest

Significantly less usable than Obsidian knife but still has uses in several quests

Melee weapon

Any melee weapon will do but Knife is the best one in my opinion since it weighs very little.
Mandatory for destroying obstructions - spider webs and broken bamboo walls have to be destroyed in several quests.

Music box

The only way go guarantee taming of some of the rare spawn mounts like Draptor or Midnight Panther

Temple Teleport Scroll

Invaluable when exploring. Can be used to instantly teleport to temple. Hate running back a forth to remote places in tibia? Just run once and tp back for free once a week.
Additionally on higher lvls this can be replaced by The Supreme Cube

Runes
Destroy field

Has to be used in many quests but also some entrances between floors are obstructed by fire/poison fields

Wall/Bomb runes

Runes of all three available elements - fire, energy, poison - are invaluable as they can be used to trap monsters, section yourself from enemies and even damaging some bosses/monsters for bosstiary and bestiary

AoE runes

Avalanche, GFB, Thunderstorm, Stone Shower. Because sometimes you have to deal damage of a particular type

UH

Less usable for knights but still a must have in any backpack. Can be used to save others but also usable during several bosses - Yselda, Ravenous Hunger

SD

Best single target rune to have.

Magic Wall

Used when you want to block a path for a quick relief, when sectioning/blocking monsters and many more cases.

That's a nice answer! What about strength, not just immunities? For instance, Souleaters take only 40% -> these are my of main concern. As I carry all of the mentioned extra items, I cannot accept "none/you don't need that" as an answer to "which".

I've updated my answer taking into consideration monsters resistant to Physical damage. Hope that helps
