How many points of interest are generated for an area?

Question

I know that we need to find 7 points of interest on an area chosen for exploration on the map, however, what is the total number of points of interest generated? Are they exactly 7 always? There is no extra point of interest? What happens if a point of interest is generated on an area that is unreachable?

It says it only generate 7 points in a area close to you but sometimes it generates more than 7 points...

If you find a point in a unreachable area the best you can do is report that place and try to find the point in another part of the map...
