Sphere of Awareness - Term I using to describe the area in which, if you are inside it then a monster becomes aware of you and will attack. Apologies if there is already a term for this that I don't know.

I am curious to know if there is any information about this or anyone has done any testing on it. It would make sense if it was just the size of the visible screen, but I have personally seen many times monsters coming from off screen directly to attack me in a place I know is far enough away from their spawn point that they should not have attacked if the visible screen was their 'Sphere of Awareness'. Examples of this that I have observed many times are Sea Serpents   and Nightmares , and their smaller counterparts. These are places I have hunted many times and are very familiar with the spawn points.

Do different monsters have different size 'Spheres of Awareness' or is it the same for all?

Any help much appreciated

I believe a creatures ability to see you and attack all depends on the creature and how its programmed. For example, the deadly knife from a Dark Torturer even though he's off your screen he still knows were there. Also, with Unstable Tunnels if we stand close to them all of us a sudden the creatures that it spawn will be able to see us and attack. (Source: what are special attributes of an unstable tunnel?)
