Is there a way to know who sent you a letter from before the senders name was on it?

If my memory serves me right- Back in the day you would receive letters and not know who they were from. Is there a way to know who sent them or they still won't have the name of whoever sent you a letter? I'm sorry I don't have any old letters to go off of in my depot.

after researching i found that this change was implemented on the major update 7.6 (2005) which says:

a number of minor adjustments have been made. For example, letters, labels and other editable items now show the name of the most recent editing character

Also, in the dec 2005 test server  (few days before the update) says:

Additionally, on all writeable papers, such as letters and parchments, the name of the last person that changed the document is shown.

so based on that, they updated both old and new documents to show properly the name of the writter (the timestamp was implemented later)

It seems that you didn't fully understand the question. Yes, currently the name and date show up on the letter whenever someone writes anything on it, but back in the past (like before 2010 or even sooner) this wasn't a case. You'd write on the letter, and it wouldn't show who wrote it on top of it.
