Is it necessary to make the burial shroud for Feaster of Souls quest?

Does a character have to make the burial shroud to proceed in the Feaster of Souls quest line or can you use one made by another character?

Since you don't get a quest log update for creating the shroud, it is likely you could use one created by another player to progress in the quest. Unfortunately every time I have completed the quest, I made a burial shroud while doing the venore flimsy area so I cannot confirm for certain.
