Hi!

I know this question might sound weird, but I would like to know if somebody has knowledge of how Tibia calculates the path a character follows when map clicking, specifically if there is an equation AND if that equation is similar (or the same) to Fermat's principle.

I know this information would most likely not be shared by Cipsoft, but there might be a way to prove it when substituting values into equations (maybe?).

Thanks!

Michelle

I think it calculates not the shortest, but the fastest route. Some tiles have higher friction value (e.g. snow).

I remember map-clicking on the southern part of the bridge, and my character went diagonally, because it was faster to walk straight onto the bridge (low friction, fast walking), than to walk over the muddy floor. Screenshot shows how it works:

Fastest route possible, or shortest (considering the sqms), if you prefer.

When you will be blocked by an item or monster, it redirects you to another trajectory. Just like a gps app on the cell phones. laugh
