Will you fail the Drume boss fight if the Lion Commanders die after the Usurper Commanders?

I've read that if all of the Lion Commanders die during this boss fight you will fail. I was wondering if that only counts during the first phase with the Usurper Commanders? Or will you fail if Drume manages to kill the final Lion Commander as well?

Once with a friend we attacked Drume from waves etc and he also attacked Lion Commanders, finally they got killed, when Drume already had red hp, then we was kick out of the room, luckily no one came after us to the boss room, monsters that were in in the boss room they killed a Drume and we got loot.

There were also cases where friends had the same situation, but unfortunately someone followed them into the room and unfortunately they did not receive any loot. I suspect that you can also fail in the first phase. But I'm not sure about it, I haven't had this situation.
