Does a higher fishing skill increase your chance to catch a Shimmer Swimmer?

Your fishing skill increases the chance that you will successfully catch a fish, up to a maximum chance of 50% at fishing skill 77 and beyond (source). While Ice Fishing it seems the skill cap may be higher but doesn't necessarily correspond to catching a rarer fish. I was wondering if a higher fishing skill increased your chances of catching a Shimmer Swimmer over the Fish Bones. 

TibiaWiki mentions "Getting this fish can be quite time consuming when using a character with a low fishing skill." but I did not find any other source or statistics on the site.

As explained in the answer, the skill increases the chance of fishing "something". So if you compare the time it takes to get one (or several) Shimmer Swimmers by characters with different skills, the higher skill will generally do it faster, and that's why that quote on TibiaWiki is correct. However, the chance of the fished object being a dead fish or the shimmer swimmer remains the same.

It does not appear so. I believe it just increases the chance for a successful "try" which will yield either bones or a shimmer swimmer.

I have caught 14 shimmer swimmers on a character with 100 base fishing and have had it take over 50 tries until I have caught one.

On the inverse side, I have caught one within the first few tries on a character with ~30 base fishing.

Unfortunately, the world change takes quite a bit of effort to set up which makes it difficult for any real testing.

That makes sense about increasing the chances for a successful try. I wonder if it would be worth tracking bones vs swimmers to see what odds are of getting one with a successful try

Its very tough since once you catch a shimmer swimmer, you're "locked" from getting another shimmer swimmer for (20?) hours. It might be more of a help to compare the total number of items "caught" compared to tries across a few characters. Ill give it a shot next time I see the world change active.
