My point is, why are some cities always been the main ones and the other ones feel empty?

I will leave some theories if you can share some would appreciate:

1) People like to see people - that’s why downtowns are full, due to its design, Thais has the closest style as a downtown of big cities in real life that’s why is always full of people.

2) Growing vertical and not horizontal - with time they´ve  added more houses to cities and caves, making them mor cozier and functional (eg. Cults in Ab or Thais bosses).

What else do you think is making the cities more functional in Tibia and what should be implemented?

You should decide, what is the question - why some cities seems to be main and othe ones are empty or what making the cities more functional, cus these are completely different questions and it is not a forum to chit-chat but QA.

You might want to delete the  'what should be implemented' part of the question as well to stop the question being flagged.

The reason why some cities are more popular (like Thais or Venore), while others seems to be empty depends on many aspects:

  • Definitely important is if the city is avaliable for FACC players. For example I don't have enough time for Tibia to stay in depo and chit-chat with people, I just log in, go on hunt, check some bosses and log out, but players who don't have PACC usually have low levels, prefer to stay in depo, chit-chat with community, then FACC cities seems to be perfect.
  • Another thing is nostalgia - most of players are people who started to play Tibia long time ago, when indeed Thais or Venore were the biggest, the most popular cities and they still remember those times. I am quite new player compared to many of my friends, I started my adventure with Tibia when Roshamuul was implementing in game, I don't feel any sentiment to facc cities and in my opinion Thais or venore are simply uncomfortable. I can not buy all kind of supplies, houses are quite small etc.

Now something what makes cities more functional (and it is also somehow related to the popularity of each city):

  • Easy access to the city. This is the reason why Kazordoon is so unpopular. In my opinion it is still to hard to get there.
  • Interesting hunting grounds around the city.
  • Houses - it is another thing that makes cities interesting for players. Big houses makes players ability to show their items collections, to make a nice decoration.
  • Trade offer of a magic store - yeah, it is important for me. I barely visit Edron since I can not buy there most of the runes I need for hunt. It is also the reason why I think that Venore or Thais as a city is quite uncomfortable. I definitely prefer Rathleton.

The value in versatility of a city has always been and its appearance, the size of houses, the accessibility to hunting spots. Such as Edron/Yalahar have expensive large houses as well as access to great hunting spots. While Carlin and Kazordoon have smaller houses and less hunting spots, or at least did at once time. The market is always changing depending on the updates. It use to be if you couldn’t find a place to live in Venore/Edron you had to settle for Carlin.

Kazordoon and Ab’dendriel were always free because it’s poor setup and shop locations. Venore has fast walking streets and Edron’s shops are in practical locations close to you. Darashia/Ankrahmun had great hunting spots and were close to the Djinn.  Then they changed hunting spots, added more options to use at your house, that these features became less and less of a worry.

Someone once referred to Carlin as the boondocks, if you weren’t rich and wanted a nice sized house. Carlin was the place, unless you wanted to settle for the off towns like stonehome, northport, etc.
