Can I water my flowers while they are in my backpack?

Today we start the flower month event, and I want to get some flower pots. and I want to get some flowers, but if I maintain them in my backpack and water them there, they'll grow? Or I need to put them on the ground, like at the floor of my house?

You can water on your backpack but it won’t grown in your backpack while you are offline so every time you log out you need to lay it in a house
