Why can't we use mounts in protection zones?

Is there a reason why we can't use mounts in protection zones? I've always wondered this because I just think mounts help with speed?

I can't think of any way mounts could cause any problems while being in pz so I think it's purely a role playing reason. If you weren't removed from mounts in pz, everyone would be running around depots ad their houses on mounts and it would look ridiculous.
