Among the information gathered, there are sources from local npcs and also sources from the official website, I've compiled the stories with a bit of interpretation. Let's start with what the npc “A vision of the past” says:
Azzilon Castle is the ruin of what was once a proud and powerful race. This race, once numerous, spread its seeds across the world. They were chosen and entrusted by the gods to protect the world, serving as the champions and favored ones of the gods during the war against evil.
They were prepared for the great war to come; thus, they planted seeds for their future armies throughout the world. Over time, a legion would have arisen, but something occurred before the seeds could even bloom.
The legions were ready to flourish but required the guidance of this race to continue the glory of their empire. Before the seeds could blossom, a vast number of demons crushed that race. Without the empire's guidance to teach the next generation, their descendants fell into barbarism and disorder, remaining only as a faint memory devoid of substance and identity.
Wilting Leaf Golems and Leaf Golems, probably seed soldiers planted by this ancient race.
They fought valiantly and bravely in the name of the gods, naming their army the Wooden Legions. They possessed physical prowess, magical perception, and the gods' blessings. Yet, they were unprepared for the wrath of the inferniarchs.
The inferniarchs managed to breach their infernal portals through weak pockets of rock and entered the depths of Azzilon's fortress. Meanwhile, the plant armies fought against the inferniarchs' siege equipment. Despite the massive attack, they still had a chance—until their doom was sealed by the mighty Rotrender.
Rotrender was an enormous inferniarch whose mere presence corrupted and decayed the ground beneath him. To defeat him, the finest soldiers of the plant race lured him into a cavern, where they used roots fused with earth and stone to trigger a massive collapse, burying themselves along with the colossal inferniarch forever. Though Rotrender was defeated, the damage to the fortress was catastrophic, allowing the complete breach of the race's defenses. They fought valiantly, defeating as many inferniarchs as possible, but their fate was already sealed.
The fortress of Azzilon fell, the race perished, and all their preparations were in vain. They had a powerful weapon, yet it was unready. This weapon had been planted in the deepest regions of the ocean, hidden from sight. Had it bloomed in time, it would have completely altered the course of history. While not explicitly stated, this plant, which could have aided and dramatically changed the war against the inferniarchs, was none other than the colossal Podzilla.
Rootthings, along with the immense podzilla, probable creations of this lost race of plant.
They underestimated time. Without sufficient time for their weapons and armies to flourish—and given the extensive time required—the inferniarchs were able to destroy them at a vulnerable moment in their race's history.
On Tibia.com there are some context about how this fortress can be found today:
Despite its tragic and fateful past, Azzilon has been forgotten by the world for eons, shrouded in an impenetrable veil of silence and sorrow. Once a vibrant stronghold, its walls echoed with the clash of good and evil.
This excerpt from the text makes direct reference to the story told by the Npc that provides a glimpse into the past.
However, after its catastrophic fall, a deep gloom settled over the war-ravaged fortifications. What might have served as an ancient reminder of battles fought in the names of the gods has long since been enshrouded by dust and neglect. For millennia, this hallowed ground of epic confrontations has slumbered in obscurity, untouched by the hands of explorers or looters alike. Whether by a cruel twist of fate or the ominous presence of doom that lingers over its expanse, no soul has dared to set foot on the fortress isle for generations.
This other portion shows us what the post-destruction period was like with the defeat of the plant race, the place was completely abandoned and forgotten.
Recently, however, dark ambitions and twisted power games have once again cast a shadow over Azzilon, drawing the gaze of vile forces eager to awaken the forgotten horrors within. Through unspeakable blasphemies, entities that have lain dead for ages are now stirring, lumbering through long-abandoned corridors in search of prey to sate an insatiable hunger.
What was once merely an uninviting ruin has transformed into a nightmarish hellscape, its depths tainted and rendered inhospitable by defiling rituals. The air hangs heavy with despair, and shadows flicker ominously along the crumbling walls, whispering secrets of the past.
The text tells us that the forgotten and neglected environment returned to turmoil with the awakening of the demonic creatures that had been “hibernating” inside the place. The fortress was then filled with an evil and dark aura, contaminating rituals and the danger of Arbaziloth's greed for power turned the place into a nightmare.
Yet, within this desolation lies an allure for the brave. The treacherous paths and cursed relics beckon daring adventurers, challenging them to confront their fears and promising untold riches.
Here, amid the darkness, there is a flicker of hope: the possibility that one might emerge not just alive, but transformed, having learned to resist the insidious forces that haunt this forsaken isle. In this realm of shadows, adventurers may uncover secrets that grant them an advantage against the very powers that once condemned this place to its fate, turning the tide of despair into an opportunity for triumph.
This last part invites the adventurer to explore this inhospitable and terrifying environment in search of riches and power, with tenacity and resilience.
The reality is one, despite its past splendor, Azzilon is now possessed by the Inferniarchs, and they will shape its appearance for the future.
If I find more information, I'll update the answer with an edit.
