What happens to fansite items that have a new sprite?

Example: There was a contest to create a new sprite for Epaminondas Doll. 

This sprite made by Makadamia was the winner. 

How will it work?

> Will the old sprite be kept for people who already have the item?

> Will only people who get the item now get a new sprite item?

> Will all items with the old sprite be replaced with items with the new sprite?

When a fansite items change their sprites all existent fansite items change.

Similar case as Dragon Goblet  on that time they added the small lava effect.
