Was fiddling around the other day and for the first time found you could click rope and click on pretty much anything and it would pull you towards that item/NPC/wall/player etc. all on the same floor

Was wondering if there is any practical use for this ie. its gets you past a barrier. Or if not, has there ever been a practical use for it that is now removed from the game?

Seems like a strange feature to have if there's no reason for it. ( I personally discovered it by trying to clear a rock from a blocked hole... didn't work)

There are many uses for that, its even used on a quest that requires 2 persons, https://tibia.fandom.com/wiki/Devil_Helmet_Quest in the devil helmet quest you can rope your mate who helped you to get in so both of you can get the reward, also back in the days you could even pull monster (now is not possible) to lure it to people and kill them or to make traps, nowadays you can rope people to help them if they dont carry a rope with them or cant use exani tera or pull up furniture that cant be picked up for decoration for houses

I'm not sure if you understand because I think i worded the question badly. I mean rope pulling on the same level, not up and down levels. I'll edit the question

In short: no, there's no use for that.

What you describe is not a characteristic unique to ropes (or tools). Some objects in Tibia have the multiuse flag, which we usually recognized by the "Use with..." option in the context menu. This includes runes, potions, tools and many, many other objects. There are, however, two types of "Use with ..." interactions.

Some objects can be used from distance, for example fishing rods and runes. You don't have to be standing right next to the water tile you want to fish in, otherwise it wouldn't work very well. So, when you use these objects, the action is performed (or you attempt to) from distance.

Other objects, however, can only be used on tiles near you. This is the case for ropes, as well as potions. When you attempt to use an object like these from distance, what actually happens is that your character first tries to move close to the tile you clicked on, and then do the object interaction.

So when you describe "pull you towards that item/NPC/wall/player", what is happening is simply that you're first moving to close range, and then trying to use the rope. If you do the same thing with a potion, you'll have the same result (of course, if the target is a player then you'll successfully use the potion).
