Do you need to do the most damage in the entire fight or a certain part of the fight to get boss loot?

I know for bosses to get loot you need to do the most damage (obviously depending on the threshold mentioned in the related question), but is it the most damage for the ENTIRE duration of the fight or for a certain part of the fight (like the last)?

As far as I know is in the entire fight, which usually don't last very long.

But.... I've also heard that you are only considered as participant, if you dealt damage to the boss in the last 15 minutes. For an example, Gaz'Haragoth respawns, you throw 1 SD and leave, and then he dies 3 hours later, you wouldn't get any loot. (this one seems to be true, because I'm pretty sure it happened to me already)

But I know for sure it doesn't work for mini-falcon bosses, because I hunt in Falcon Castle, so sometimes I'll deal some damageto Preceptor Lazare, but won't kill, since it lowers exp/h, and then hours later I'll receive a message about his loot.

 So, maybe each boss has a different mechanic conserning time. But that usually isn't a big problem, since most bosses will die in a few minutes. Imo the only exception is Gaz'Haragoth and Omrafir

To get the loot you have to make the biggest "participation level" (I mean old bosses like Ferumbras). 

You can get participation level by:

• hitting the boss, 
• healing (Druids) ,
• blocking (taking damage from the boss)(Knights and Paladins) 
• "other actions" this actions are the things you do to help kill the boss.

Time to make the biggest level of your participation counts from when the boss spawns till his death.

"other actions" for example might be on Omrafir when u throw wild growths or m wall I guess :D

I agree with the following replies but I would only like to add one thing. When you are doing the Ferumbras Ascendant's Quest it differs a little. The last fight with the Feru is divided into three stages (the Immortal Ferumbras part, the Ferumbrass Soul Splinter's Phase and the Ferumbrass Mortal Shell). During this whole fight what matters is the damage or contribution done during the last phase only!
