How to make an item go into your backpack instead of your empty equipment slot when picking up loot?

I have a friend that wants to be 100% fist fighting and keeps picking up weapons that automatically go into his weapon slot. The thing is, he doesn't want to skip this loot as he wants to make a loot bag and sell his loot so he wants the item to go into his backpack at least. How to avoid picking up these items that go into your equipment slots rather than backpack? How can my friend make the item go straight into his backpack and not weapon slot for example?

Tell him to equip a weapon that his vocation cannot use. When wielding a weapon that isn't for your vocation you'll use Fist Fighting and not the weapon's skill.

If he's a Knight, then any mage wand/rod will do. If he's not a knight he can choose any axe/sword/club that says "It can only be wielded properly by knights..."
