Can a raid be delayed?

As far as I know you can't completely block an unannounced spawn of a boss, but you can delay it if you stand on where he spawns. For example I've noticed when people were constantly standing on Fernfang's island, he always spawned "as late as he could". But does this apply to other non-boss-related raids, even the announced ones?

As far as i've seen in my boss hunting / raid participating days, you are not able to delay them. Hence why fully discovering the area will give you early raid warnings and such giving you an advantage to go stand in the area ahead of when it would normally be announced. I've also seen people sitting on Folda waiting for Yetis to spawn, and they will spawn even with people in the area.
