Hey guys,

I am completing the Helmet of the Ancients quest and read that there are rumors of an item which will perm enchant the helmet, the Soul Ruby. I checked wiki and read not much information on the item which leads me to believe it's unobtainable and all just speculation. I was wondering if anyone had any further information on how to obtain the Soul Ruby, or is it just pure legend?

Helmet of the AncientsA Helmet of the Ancients can be enchanted with a small ruby for 30 minutes (+3 armor). However, a soul ruby is said to enchant the helmet forever with possibly even more power.Helmet of the Ancients (Enchanted) Currently, we don't know if we're missing something or if it's even implemented, there's no proof. I've never seen a character with a said soul ruby. I guess this remains one of the great mysteries that can be neither confirmed nor denied in Tibia. Here's some of my research which of course, I came up empty-handed with no soul ruby-

Quoting from Morgathla Reveals the Secrets of the Mask (Book) which is a book seen in the mysterious Serpentine Tower:

...so Morgathla revealed to him one of the secrets it was guarding, a secret that had been thought lost for a long time. And Arkhothep forged the parts of a powerful mask and assembled it on a demon altar. He had secretly erected this unholy shrine underneath the great pyramid he had planned to use as the final resting place for his father. So strong was this altar's magic that it fused the parts to form the famous Helmet of the Ancients as soon as they were placed on it. Eight helmets Arkhothep crafted, one for himself and one for each of his allies. But he did not fully trust his fellow conspirators, so he inserted ordinary rubies into their helmets, while his own helmet was imbued with the eternal power of a soul ruby. This way those helmets had only a fraction of his own helmet's powers. But Arkhothep's precautions against his allies went further than that. He only revealed the secret to forge one single part of the helmet to each of them, and each of them was taught the secret to forge a different part. Arkhothep clearly saw through his allies' greedy natures. He knew they would never share their knowledge with each other, and he foresaw that their greed would make them plot against each other rather than against him.

My speculations-

  1. Maybe Arkhothep (Dark Pharaoh ruler of Ankrahmun) or Morgathla (ancient guardian of the Ankrahmun Tomb) has the answer? Arkhothep's room is said to be inaccessible so I don't think we can speak to him. As for Morgathla, I cannot find this NPC either but I do know that there's a boss called the Ancient Spawn of Morgathla which looks like an Ancient Scarab that can be seen during the Dangerous Depths Quest.
  2. A soul ruby doesn't appear when I type it into the Cyclopedia, could it have another name or might it not even exist?
  3. Maybe the soul ruby is hidden from the Cyclopedia? Maybe there's one soul ruby and Arkhothep used it and didn't want others to know because then they'll steal his powerful ruby?

Soul Ruby is one of the topics discussed since many years by Tibia’s mysteriando community. For today, there are no proofs that anyone has managed to solve this mystery.

History of Soul Ruby, just like many other legendary items, has its beginning in book – “Morgathla Reveals the Secrets of the Mask” [1].

According to some article on Tibia.fandom.com (aka TibiaWiki) [2] this item does not exist and you can find link to the read at the end of my work. You might say that case is closed. But I would say that you are not right and that you must understand how, back in time, Cipsoft liked to give us players hidden tips and we should never take things literally. We should leave a little space for personal interpretations and then we can deduce that such item might  actually exist.

Mentioned earlier book [1] can be found in mysterious Serpentine Tower in Ankrahmun. Just two levels below mentioned library I have found some interesting item which is actually similar to a soul ruby, and I’m talking about Blood Orb .

I myself have found 3 Treasure Rooms with a Blood Orb inside:

- Serpentine Tower Treasure Room

- Yalahar Beregar Treasure Room

- Ferumbrass Treasure Room

Even though all of those rooms are very different from each other – they are located in different parts of Tibia map, they differ with difficulty to reach them, they are located on different levels.. But I was trying to figure out what do these rooms have in common?

Firstly I marked points on map with mentioned locations. At first sight it made obvious triangle shape to me. At this point, I wanted to find an epicenter of triangle, just like with the legendary Bermuda Triangle.

BOOOM - the middle of triangle falls on The Outlaw Camp! What does it tell me? Absolutely nothing that I could connect to lore, blind spot I guess, ROFL

Did you maybe find interesting anything else in those rooms? Because for me personally I think that many items are connected with Egyptian Civilization in there. First thing I want to point out is a mask, exclusively located in Ferumbras Tower. Precisely speaking a Ceremonial Mask. And why would I focus on this item? Because of its striking resemblance to Helmet of The Ancients. Just take a look at metal shape, silver horns and shiny ruby.

One of my theories is that during wearing Ceremonial Mask, the ordinary ruby becomes a Soul Ruby in process of upgrading Helmet of the Ancients. Unfortunately nobody managed to acquire mentioned mask, or at least hasn’t shared such information or proof. But why the only Ceremonial Mask that exists can be found only in Ferumbras Tower? Does it have any connection with Ferumbras ascendance?

And then I found proof that Ferumbras actually has Ankrahmun’s blood in his veins, since Goshnar (first Ankrahmun’s magician king) is his grandfather! Whole text can be found to the east of Dark Cathedral, in Necromant house – “The Ferumbras Files” [3].

That book suits my theory very well, but that’s the point where I couldn’t develop further intriguing narrative of this mysteriando.

And coming back to mentioned prize rooms - there is also one more element that can be found in all 3 Treasure Rooms – which is Ring of the Wishes. It looks exactly like Ring of the Sky but it’s completely different item. It’s of course unobtainable, but maybe it’s just there to give us some hints? Hints connected to the Ring of Sky? This item is connected with Warlocks, known as dark sorcerers, using their magic power to rule the world. Just like a Pharao, which will be mentioned below. They appear in Ferumbras Citadel (Kharos) and also in beginning of Tibia existence Ferumbras could summon Warlocks (!), Yalahar Beregar (Fenrock) and are also spawned by one of Pharaos (Rahemos). So maybe this ring tells us to look at the sky? But there is no sky in Tibia.. right? So we might not be talking specifically about sky but maybe.. day and night? Since time in Tibia can be measured, this might be our case?

I immediately connected that part with another book that can be found in Serpentine Tower [4].

So some rituals can be performed during specific period of time? Nice! As some of you might know, Tibia creators liked to sneak some real-life topics into the game. And that would make a little sense while connecting it with another symbol of ancient Egypt implemented in game – a Holy Scarab. Please find below a piece of article that I found interesting [5].

So maybe the mentioned rituals can only be performed in early, morning hours in Tibia?

But hey! Holy Scarab can be found in 2 of 3 mentioned earlier Treasure Rooms!

Doesn’t it look a bit familiar to something?

For me personally, that looks definitely like a Blood Orb.

Also in ancient Egypt, Scarabs held a special meaning to its civilization [6].

And this point I haven’t found anything else that would connect to this part of lore.

Let’s change direction a little and again read the book [1]. There are mentioned 2 characters that we should to know better in oder to understand some facts: Arkhothep and Morgathla.

Arkhothep

He is a pharaoh, who can be found on the top of Great Pyramid in Ankrahmun. He is a son of most powerful HotA pharaoh - Ashmunrah, and became the pharaoh himself. Being a dark character, he poisoned mind of his father with variable lies in order to achieve his goals and eventually killed him. He is known for using dark sorcery to gain power. He is described as praised pharaoah in book “The Great Pyramid and the Undying Pharaoh”. And in his Great Pyramid he is surrounded by trusted servants – the only NPC in that pyramid is Ishebad who actually is a mummy and has something interesting to say.

First I wanted to ask what he thinks about him being undead mummy.

So Ishebad actually thinks that he is chosen by Arkhothep and is most likely proud of fact being able to serve his beloved pharaoh.

I also asked him about the Soul Ruby, but in the oldschool Egyptian language. So I needed a little help from uncle Google.

Here’s the result of our chat

Looks like their soul can be enriched after ascension. Hmm.. ascension? Just like Ferumbras got Ascended? That’s why he has a Blood Orb, Holy Scarab ad Ceremonial Mask inside his citadel? That definitely gave me some more motivation to dig a bit deeper.

Let’s check another of Ankrahmun’s libraries book describing story of Ashmunrah, Arkhotep and Mahatheb. Please find below the full description from the book “Mahatheb the Vizier” [7].

So what actually attracted my attention is fact that Mahatheb took riches from Ankrahmun and ran away. Some of you might know that we are able to meet Mahatheb actually. He is right now a Nemesis Boss, that can be found in Forgotten Tomb in Edron. That Tomb is just like Ankrahmun ones, with some exceptions (like no scarab coin mechanism). Also Mahatheb is not that many times killed Boss and interests in him grew just after the Bosstiary thing arrived to Tibia. So he actually might have some undiscovered drop, taken away from Ankrahmun..

Ancient Scarab of Morgathla

In game we can also find a Nemesis Boss named Ancient Spawn of Morgathla. This boss looks like an Ancient Scarab, just differs from basic ones with its colour. The fact that Morghathla is a Scarab is even more interesting after reading another book from Serpentine Tower – “Recovering the Secret of the Mask“ [8].

If you read closely, book doesn’t mention helmet like in previous books, but MASK.. Ceremonial Mask maybe? So that’s why Ferumbras remained the most powerful creature in Tibia for so long? Because he is in possession of the most powerful mask, not meant for ordinary ones?

Also mentioned earlier, loyal servant of Arkhtep – Ishedal had something to say about scarabs:

Seems that civilization of Scarabs were the ones that could forge Helmet of the Ancients as first? Could that mean that Morgathla as boss, which is quite new, quite rare and relatively wasn’t killed that many times by players so far, drops “Soul Ruby”? Just like with Mahatheb, I am strongly convinced that I might be the case, because after over 20 years, first screenshot of Yeti dropping Bunnyslippers was captured and similar case can be mentioned with Massacre and his rare loot Great Shield. We might need some reaaaally high amount of mallets to be used until we find out about that theory!

Too bad no hard proof yet.. let’s come back to Book of Morgathla once again.

What do I find interesting about that? Why did Arkhothep award only 7 out of 8 legendary Pharaos?

Especially that’s interesting since the mentioned 7 wanted to raise against Arkhotep as we can read in the book “The Conspirators” [9].

Their attempt was failed and they met the fatal destiny of Arkhotep’s wrath according to book “Banished Pharaohs' Tombs” [10]:

Arkhotep punished them with highest cruelty – he didn’t let them find peace in true death and left them as undead in order to be a lost soul forever.

But why Ashmunrah, met the same fate as the banished Pharaos? Why would son act like that and wouldn’t gift anything to his father? Especially while he poisoned his thoughts and had him under control? Because Ashmunrah is the strongest of Pharaos? Maybe he was scared of his father’s strenght? In my opinion Arkthep despite killing his father, he really cares about him and that’s why he let him live in the same building, few levels below and didn’t kick him out of city like the banished ones –  “The Great Pyramid and the Undying Pharaoh” [11]:

So maybe Arkhotep really wants his dad to rebirth and rule Ankrahmun with him alongside? Maybe he gave him something really powerful with hidden meaning? Maybe he trusted his father so much that he gave him the most responsible role in the show and let him keep mystery of strongest insignia of HotA - Soul Ruby? Does Holy scarab dropped by Ashmunrah really hold a Blood orb?

So who knows, is a Soul Ruby another unfinished lore of Tibia? Or maybe it is reachable for us, but at specific time that nobody tried before? Are we blocked by lack of Ceremonial Mask? Questions multiply as we dig deeper. And that’s what I love about Tibia, exploring the unexplored.
