I am a knight and, during my hunts, I noticed several ways in which the creature leaves me and goes to a shooter.

I noticed several situations in which the creatures do this process. I highlight some places below:

  • Approximation
  • Contact
  • ...

I would like to know what are the possibilities in which it occurs.

For example: "When throwing an exori frigo on a silencer, it changes the target"

I hope I have been clear about my question.

It's kind of impossible to say how many and what percentage of a monster turns against a shooter.

But each monster has a different chance to switch targets, and some may never switch, for example Gazer Spectres. You can learn better about how often the monsters switch targets by hunting them.

But there are certain mechanics that can prevent or decrease the chance of a monster changing targets, such as positioning, elemental bombs and of course the exeta res spell.

I think it would be almost impossible to determine what triggers a creature to chance its target. Of course, there must be some algorithm behind which is  involves math, but in any case, I would rather say based on my experience that it is completely random.

Of course, some monsters are more likely to change targets but it doesn't necessarily means there is something triggering the target change. I do have noticed though, that many monsters tend to change target more often when they are being attacked by other players.

For instance, let's put an example as seen below. This is only an example.

Let's say a giaint spider has 10% chance of changing its target. When attacked by other player it has 15% chance of changing its target. This is how I believe it works.

There are also some very specific actions which could lead to change target like stepping behind a wall that a monster wont pass or when monsters have no possible way to reach their actual target.

Every 2 seconds there is an X% chance a monster will retarget. Where the percentage is different for each monster. The target logic I remember existing from the 7.7 files are

  • Target nearest
  • Target highest damage dealing
  • Target lowest level (Pirates do this)
I'd reckon the logic is still fairly similar today but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that more types of target logic have been added.
